Vets

"I qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1987. I have worked in the Blackburn area since qualifying. I originally worked at Abbeydale Vets over 15 years ago, having a break from practice when my two boys were young children. When my children reached school age I returned to practice working for a neighbourhood practice, mainly at their Darwen branch for eight years."

"I was then welcomed back to Abbeydale when they opened the new Darwen branch in 2009 as the lead vet. I am a keen and experienced first opinion general practitioner."

"In my spare time, I enjoy the great outdoors, walking and running in the countryside. I have a cat called William who is a much-valued family pet and my husband keeps marine fish with live corals and a sea anemone."

Charlotte Dobson

"I graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in July 2012. I returned back home to the north west where I have been practicing for nearly five years. I joined Abbeydale Vets in August 2016 and I am based at the Blackburn surgery. I completed my Advanced practitioners certificate in small animal surgery in October 2016."

"I have a keen interest in all aspects of small animal surgery but primarily orthopaedic surgery. I am mainly found in theatre repairing cruciate ligament ruptures or fractures! I share my home with my husband and 2 dogs: ‘George’ the Jack Russel Terrier who loves nothing more than being loved and cuddled and ‘Belle’ a Collie cross Jack Russel who loves to swim and chase balls!"

"When not at work I enjoy walking the dogs and riding my horses. I am expecting my first baby in June 2017 so will be taking a short break from the practice, but will be back in 2018."

"I qualified as a vet from Liverpool University in 2009. In addition to my Veterinary degree I have a BSc (Hons) in Conservation Medicine. I have a particular interest in more unusual pets such as reptiles, birds and invertebrates but I also love our furrier friends."

"At home, I currently cater for a ginger cat, Jake, and an elderly Giant African Land Snail called Pi. When I am not busy looking after my young son and husband, I love to swim outdoors, or hike to a good pub or tearoom."

Tom Foster

"I qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2012 and have been in small animal practice ever since! I have spent the last two years doing locum work in Australia and around the UK, before coming to work for Abbeydale Vets as a permanent member of staff from April!"

"My particular area of interest is surgery, and I have just started studying for a certificate in this area at the University of Liverpool."

"Outside of work I enjoy keeping fit and playing rugby. I have previously fostered cats, and although currently living in a non pet-friendly flat at the moment, I look forward to having several dogs and hopefully some chickens in the future!"

Michael Holroyd has over 30 years experience in practice locally. He graduated with honours from Liverpool University in 1972. Mike is a fourth generation vet; his great grandfather having started the practice over a century ago in Simmons Street. At that time the Corporation trams were horse drawn and the tram sheds were opposite the practice.

In 1987 he moved the small animal side of the practice to its current location in Preston New Road.

Outside the practice  Mike is a keen and very highly qualified scuba diver.

"I qualified from Edinburgh University in 1987 and have since worked mostly in the North West"

"I am an experienced small animal practitioner and enjoy the variety of medical and surgical cases that it brings."

"I am married with two school age children, and our family is not complete without "Jess" our Border Collie, and a cat or two. Our current resident is "Tommy" the cat an aging stray who now enjoys the good life. The family keeps me busy but in my spare time i enjoy gardening and various outdoor pursuits from off road running to muddy obstacle courses. Jess enjoys walks of any description but hill walking is still our favourite"
